My work is based on discarded and recycled material especially steel. I source it from local scrap yards, farms, garages and bike shops and from walking on nearby beaches. I mainly use welding to create surreal creatures and abstract sculptures, many of them inspired by the local Norfolk countryside and travels that I’ve made further afield. I try to evoke movement and lightness with a material which is essentially heavy and static. Many of my pieces will sway in the breeze catching the light and playing with the shadows. I try to turn mundane objects which are taken for granted into another form and life, sometimes revealing humorous associations.
