Connie’s multi skilled practice has evolved through experimenting and combining traditional techniques and modern practices, using a variety of materials to work with both hand and machines skills. She has and continues to develop her practice, 2022 marks thirty years of exhibiting throughout the UK and abroad

‘It is important to me to create textile objects by using materials sourced with thought, whether it is recycled cloth and thread or natural fibres from sustainable sources. There is often a ‘food for thought’ narrative in my work representing and making connections between time and place, materials and people. ‘

Although Connie has focused on producing distinctive hand-worked textiles. She enjoys applying her skills across different media, having worked in stained glass for twenty years and more recently exploring techniques using copper and silver.

Connie has a formal teacher training a B.A. (Hons) in Art and Education and is a trained Art Therapist. She has an extensive experience of residencies in museum, school and community contexts, with much experience of working with others to develop skills and confidence in making art. In 2015 Connie completed a B.A. (Hons) Contemporary Textile degree in Shetland as a way of learning new skills to combine with other techniques. She finished her third year with a distinction. She continues to exhibit her work, as well as offer talks and workshops.
